Can't write to iPod

I'm using gtkpod and I can get into my iPod, I just can't write to it. I'm mounting it as 'mount -t hfsplus /dev/sda /mnt/ipod'. Is this wrong? Is there a way to mount it with write permissions set or change permissions once it's mounted?
...Or am I totally off track?

try adding -o rw to your mount command.

It's letting me mount like that but still no luck. All I can do is view what's there.

is your ipod formatted in HFS format? If so, you need to convert to windows format for gtkpod to understand it.

Here's some instructions:

I did all that and now, when I try to create directories in gtkpod, it says 'Problem creating directories in /mnt/ipod'. Obviously, I can't write to it. Gtkpod does see the iPod.
Should I use some other program or am I just doing something wrong like missing a library or something?

I finally said screw it and installed GNUpod. It's not as pretty but the functionality is great; it worked "out of the box."
