Can't get Fedora Core 1 to recognize my HP CD-Writer 7500E
After finding it listed on several lists of compatible Linux hardware, I purchased a HP CD-Writer 7500E. The Writer works just fine in my Win98 partition, but Fedora Core 1 fails to even look for it.
The Writer is contacted via the printer port which it shares with my printer. Fedora will NOT recognize it with or without the printer installed. I've tried "forcing" the issue with Gnome's CD-Writer, but it doesn't even see there is a piece of hardware.
I emailed HP customer support and got this:
This drive is not supported by the Fedora Core 1. HP has tested these
drives in the above mentioned operating systems and it is recommended
that the CD-Writer be used exclusively with the supported operating
systems. This places the writer in an environment that HP Technical
Support is familiar with, and facilitates to provide successful
resolution of any issue the HP CD-Writer may be experiencing.
Unfortunately, no updated drivers and software which are compatible with
Fedora Core 1 are available to download.
I am a little dubious of HP since the Window98 driver I downloaded from their site failed to work. I had to go to a third party site for a working driver.
Has anyone gotten this CD-Writer to work in Linux?
Wow ... A paraport burner? If you can return it, do ... If you can't, read this. Paraport burning is going to be painfully slow at best, and abysmally slow at worst.
With cheap off the shelf IDE burners working with ide-scsi, and those burners running from $25 - $50, I'd sure get something a little more ... modern.
I really want an external cd-r and this is what I've got. It's slow in Windows but not terribly. For what I have to burn, it doesn't take that long. Mostly backups of document files.
