Brother HL-2140 Printer Setup

Hi, can anyone please explain how to setup a Brother HL-2140 Printer on Debian Jessie so I can use it. I've been over the arch, debian, ubuntu, and linux mint forums and openprinting.org and nothing I find on them seems to work. The system doesn't detect the printer even with the recommended drivers from brother's site installed.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

More clarification could be useful here. After installing the drivers did you then configure CUPS to use the vendor driver?

Did you checked arch or gentoo wiki.

*)
I expect that you build your own kernel and do not use the trash kernel (that's important!)(missing kernel things can cause issues=)
I expect that you are able to properly connect the hardware, power it on, use proper cables, use working cables.
I expect taht you have the necessary software modules installed, especially cups and the other stuff. (check wiki for requirements)

SimplyInquisitive,

The usual procedure is as follows:

You only need to obtain the Driver Install Tool (this tool will install LPR, CUPSwrapper driver and scanner driver (for scanner models):

http://support.brother.com/g/b/downl...140_all&os=128

1. Download the tool (linux-brprinter-installer-2.2.0-1.gz).

The tool will be downloaded into the default "Downloads" directory.

e.g. /home/username/Downloads

2. Open a terminal window and go to the directory (Downloads) where you downloaded the file to in the last step.

Code:
cd Downloads
(change this if a different location is used)

3. Enter this command to extract the downloaded file:

Code:
gunzip linux-brprinter-installer-2.2.0-1.gz
4. Get superuser authorization with the "su" command or "sudo su" command.

Code:
sudo su
5. Run the tool:

Code:
bash linux-brprinter-installer-2.2.0-1 HL-L2140
6. The driver installation will start. Follow the installation screen directions.

When you see the message "Will you specify the DeviceURI ?",

For USB Users: Choose N (No)

For Network Users: Choose Y (Yes) and DeviceURI.

The install process may take some time. Please wait until it is complete.

I actually got it working. Turned out a faulty usb port prevented it from being detected. Thanks for the help, though everyone.
