check and makesure you have /dev/cdrom by doing this
Code:
ls -l /dev/cdrom
sometimes it may be /dev/cdrom0 or even /dev/cdroms/cdrom0. search for it. and then update your /etc/fstab with the correct path.

describe your machine first. How many hard drives? How many optical drives? Is your cd-rom an IDE? In many cases, /dev/cdrom is merely a symbolic link to the following devices:

/dev/hd?, where ? is a letter [commonly c or d], or
/dev/sr? or /dev/scd?, where ? is a number.

then you can simply create a symbolic link to it by doing this:
Code:
ln -s /dev/hdc /dev/cdrom
this is assuming that your optical device is /dev/hdc, change it accordingly.

I have one hard drive partioned into two so I can dual boot with Windows XP. I don't know what an optical drive is, but I have one cd drive and a dvd burner, and both are IDE. The funny thing is though that I cn use the cd drive.

I'll try that though.
