Boot from PCI to USB2.0

HI

Is it possible to boot from a hard disk connected to
the USB2.0 through PCI2USB?

I tried it, my IBM notebook does not recognize any
bootable disk from the USB.

Yes if your system/laptop supports booting from USB devices and the kernel has USB support built into the kernel.

if I install a brand new FC5 on the harddisk connect to a USB,
do I need to do anything special to enable the computer to boot
from this harddisk throught USB?

As you mentioned, 1) my computer need to have function of booting
from USB. 2) the kernel need to built to support booting from
USB. I am wondering if I need to do anything to guarantee 2.

Yes, maybe, no..... this depends on factors not known, you have not provided any hardware details. If your system is fairly modern then you stand a good chance of booting Linux from the external drive.

For example, I can boot from external USB devices (hard drive or memory) with my laptop (Acer Aspire 5002WLMi) but cannot do so with my desktop system which a few years old (4 to be exact).
