USB2 pci trouble

I recently installed a USB2 pci card. I thought since it is new hardware MDK10 would recognise it on bootup but no-go. I get nothing when I connect either my flash drive or usb HP printer. I searched the hardware forum & found reference to a soundcard problem. I tried lspci & got this output:
[root@Main_PC root]# lspci

00:01.0 PCI bridge: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] SiS 530 Virtual PCI-to-PCI bridge (AGP)

00:02.7 Multimedia audio controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] Sound Controller (rev a0)
00:0b.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+ (rev 10)
00:0d.0 USB Controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. USB (rev 50)
00:0d.1 USB Controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. USB (rev 50)
00:0d.2 USB Controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. USB 2.0 (rev 51)
00:0f.0 Modem: PCTel Inc: Unknown device 2189 (rev 04)
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV5M64 [RIVA TNT2 Model 64/Model 64 Pro] (rev 15)

I think the VIA Technologies references are my USB card. If so, why is it dead?

Thanks!
