boot failed when added additional memory

Hi All,

I have 64MB of ram and when I tried to add additonal 256 MB RAM, It gives me some error and doest boot further.

It stops somewhere in ismod and reports some kernel error....

I also have dual boot win98/mandrake 9.1. This problem doesn't appear in win98.

Please help.

Thanks in advance,

How much ram does win98 report? One thing to try is removing both ram modules and putting the 256MB stick in the main bank, i.e. the one the 64MB stick is in now.
