Audio cd doesn't work in any player

Hi, I use Arch linux. My issue is that when I put in an audio cd, it doesn't work in any player. The file /dev/sr0 exists and data cds work fine. I am in the optical group. mplayer fails with:
Code:
$mplayer -cdrom-device /dev/sr0 cdda://
MPlayer SVN-r34007-4.6.1 (C) 2000-2011 MPlayer Team
163 audio & 363 video codecs
mplayer: could not connect to socket
mplayer: No such file or directory
Failed to open LIRC support. You will not be able to use your remote control.

Playing cdda://.
Can't open disc.
Failed to open cdda://.

Exiting... (End of file)
cdcd fails with
Code:
$cdcd
cdcd 0.6.6

cdcd is free software, covered by the GNU General Public Licence, and you are welcome to change it and/or distribute copies of it
under certain conditions. There is absolutely no warranty for cdcd. See the file COPYING for details.
Using libcdaudio 0.99.12.
Enter ? for help.
cdcd> play
No disc in drive
cdcd>
I know the cd works, as I can play it in Windows. Any hints?

did you try mounting the CD first?

mount /dev/WhateverCD-Device /mnt/cdrom

then try reading/playing?

It is an audio CD. It does not contain a filesystem and cannot be mounted.

Technically, you can mount audio cd's - http://users.elis.ugent.be/~mronsse/cdfs/
And to correct the last post, audio CD's DO have filesystems, however, they are on the CD itself; The CDDA format is used to read from the internal filesystem on the CD.

To the OP: Can you try the following and let us know what happens?
Code:
mplayer cdda://
Cheers,

Josh
