ATI9600SE Testing

Hi all,

Is there a way to test out my ATI 9600SE AGP card to see if its operating correctly?

Under my Mepis OS, Display, it is checked that its using the Officail ATI drivers. But for some reason, when i try to configure my desktop and click on Display, it says:

Your X server does not support the resizing and rotating the display. Please update to version 4.3 or greater. You need the X resize and Rotate expansion (RANDR) version 1.1 or greater to use this device.

Im guessing this message comes up because i havent configured my monitor in the Mepis OS due to my monitor model number not been dispalyed.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

The proprietary radeon drivers from ati had problems while using the RANDR extension of XFree.

I don't know if this problem is solved with the latest drivers but it's possible, you can try.

"ATI Proprietary Linux Release Notes

These release notes provide information on the latest posting of ATI's Proprietary Linux driver version 8.14.13 (IIRC). This release provides improved driver stability and 2D acceleration performance.

Issues Resolved

* The DGA and RandR X Server extensions are now capable of loading simultaneously when using the ATI Proprietary Linux driver"

The proprietry ATI Linux driver probably has a GUI installer appropriate for your distribution. I know it does for Fedora, as I've installed it and it works reasonably well.
