ATI X800 Pro

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone has had success with this card or any ATI card and games in linux. Mainly using Cedega for Counter Strike Source. I know ATI just released some new drivers today to fix some stuff. If you have a good install and have got things running great please post your linux ditro, what ATI card you are using, what kernel you are running and also what drivers you are using for it.

Thanks for your time and help

Actually, they were released two days ago (Wednesday's seem to be ATi's usual driver release day when they're in the swing of things).

Distribution: Slackware --current (at the moment, really just Slackware 10.1 with X.Org 6.8.2)
Card: Hercules 3D Prophet 9800 Pro 128mb (basically a Radeon 9800 Pro reference board, with fancier heatsinks)
Kernel: 2.6.10 (custom)
Drivers: 8.10.19 (the new ones, previously ran the 8.8.25 though)

Pro's and cons (from my point of view, so take it with a very large grain or so of salt).

Pro's:

Increased performance from 8.8.25 (Doom 3 is actually reasonable to play now)
No patching needed to install the drivers (8.8.25 needed patching for the 2.6.10 kernel)

Cons:

fglrxconfig has now been updated for X.Org - but seems a little too enthusiastic about writing over my old /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Thanks for the info I will have to try slack tonight. I had Gentoo installed but it freaked out when I tried playing games. Was thinking of trying Mandrake or Slack but since I have one good testimony for Slack I will go with it.

But please any others with success stories please leave the same info for me as I am always wanting to try and setup different distros just for the experience of doing it.

Thanks

Same here.
Slack 10, Xorg 6.7, 2.6.10 kernel , fglrx 8.10.19 (external agp gart)
With nforce2 ultra 400 + Radeon 9700Pro. New driver performs noticeably better then 8.8.25
