Asus ATI Radeon 9550 Graphics card installing drivers

I have just bought a Dell 24" flat screen that runs at a screen resolution of 1920 x 1200 at 60 Hhz but I can nto seem to get any of my distros to run it at that res.

So I assume that I have to install the Linux drivers for this card to be able to run at this resolution.

Am I correct to assume that installing the Linux drivers will NOT interfere with the windows XP install on the same machine?

I found this link to install the drivers.

http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_X850XT_ATI_Drivers

Is this the right place that I should be looking at for my card?

Alternativly, I also found this link

http://www.stanchina.net/~flavio/deb...installer.html

maybe this would be better for me as I am running Xubuntu and other Debian based distros.

Installing video card drivers in linux will not interfere with your dual-boot of windows. Updating the drivers would be the first thing I would try if its not able to run at that res.

I downloaded the drivers from ATI website and then did

sudo sh ./ati-driver-installer-8.27.10-x86_64.run

as instructed.

I get the response

Creating directory fglrx-install
Verifying archive integrity... All good.
Uncompressing ATI Proprietary Linux Driver-8.27.10......................................................
==================================================
ATI Technologies Linux Driver Installer/Packager

Detected configuration:
Architecture: x86_64 (64-bit)
X Server: Xorg 6.8.2
Removing temporary directory: fglrx-install

The ATI installer did not open up and when I tried to run

fglrxconfig

I get

bash: fglrxconfig: command not found

I managed to get the drivers installed for my Xubuntu 32bit installation and would like to do the same for the 64 bit distro.

What do I need to do next?
