I have a self-built PC with mATX case. The built-in sis video is buggy so I am going to get a new video card (AGP 4X/8X ). Any recommendations?
- I am not a gamer, I dn't really need high performance 3D. (Well, I do like the fantastic xscreen saver)
- I need a video card that work fine in linux without troubles.
I'm also not much of a gamer, and I use an MX440 (don't laugh). It's fine for everything I need - windows manager, watching movie files & DVDs, and actually does a surprisingly good job of running Doom3.
Frankly, any Nvidia card you can currently buy in a computer shop will probably more than match your needs. . .
I just upgraded, but my mx420 does even games very good!!!!! It just shows what kind of products NVIDIA makes. The best deal on a gaming, but not top o the line card was an NVIDIA FX 6800 O.C. for 80$. Some FX5200's with 64 megs of VRAM were closer to 50-60$.
Hope it helps,

BTW, these prices were from a Fry's electronics store in AZ
you may want to check out newegg.com or even ebay

I recently picked up an FX 5500 and was very impressed with both the improved performance as well as the ease of the driver installation process. (Previous card was an ATI Radeon 7500) As I recall the price was about $70 out the door, from Newegg. Good luck with it -- J.W.
A GeForce6 6200 will work well. It is both faster than GeForceFX, outputs better graphics (what I read), and costs the same as GeForceFX 5200. The GeForceFX is just a lousy model.
slackwarebilly, a model 6800 is GeForce6 not GeForceFX.
