8GB HP w165 pen drive write protected.. !!!!!!!!

Hi all,

Recently while tranferring date to my pen drive, i got this error message. Disk write protected. I checked in Windows 7 with various softwares like

Repair_v2.9.1.1
fat32format
HS2.0_Utility_LFormat
command line diskpart command
safe mode with command prompt
Active@ Kill disk ... The list goes on and on..

Same problem with Linux also the dmesg output shows it as write protected.

I was unable to try with dd command. Can somebody give me the format of dd command to format a pen drive ? or plz suggest any other method

Cheers,
Naren

Some oem's offer a repair tool. See HP for any that may work.

This is a common complaint.

Other tools exist.

I have no Windows experience, but before I made mine ext2 I found that sometimes they are made write-protected by the OS because they look corrupt and it's trying to prevent more damage. Try unmounting and using dosfsck.
