'shutdown now' successful, 'shutdown -r now' fails

mobo = Asus P4S8X-MX
proc = Intel Celeron D
distro = Fedora Core 5
kernel = kernel-2.6.16-1.2111_FC5
bios = updated to most recent version
All packages have been updated to most recent versions.

The command 'shutdown now' is successful, while 'shutdown -r now' stalls at "rebooting system." The 'reboot' command also causes the same problem.

All shutdown procedures take place without a hitch, and the keyboard LEDs even flash once as they do at bootup, but the reboot just won't continue. Suspend works correctly, and so does does shutdown without reboot, so it's clear that my mobo is taking SOME acpi orders from the kernel.

Any assistance greatly appreciated!

very strange.. could also be caused by a change to /etc/init.d/rc.
does init 6 do it?

Hi Nilleso,

Init 6 causes the same behavior: shutdown sequence completes, everything [OK], but it never bounces as it should.

Just tried a 'reboot' with Knoppix... No dice. Can anyone confirm whether or not Knoppix will reboot their system?

Does "shutdown -r -t now" work?
That is how init 6 is called in /etc/inittab.
