Yast/new lvm question sles9

I'm at kernel 2.6.5-7.252 . I need to make a logical volume group. I went into yast to add a new group but it asked a question I didn't know the answer to. I've tried to research it also but didn't find the answer so here I am.
The question asked was "use old lvm1 compatible metadata format". I didn't create the original logical volumes and the person that did is gone.
Anyhelp is greatly appreciated.
thx
Mace
