xterm configuration problem

I followed some instructions to configure my xterm, but i found no difference:
----------------
.Xdefaults
-----------------
xterm*background: black
xterm*foreground: green
xterm*font: -adobe-*-bold-r-normal-*-14-100-100-100-m-90-*-*
-----------------
I also did "chmod 777 .Xdefaults", because i had created the file as root.
Any ideas?
Thanks

You need to restart X most likely.

Also, in the future, if you actually state what you've tried already, it helps us from not suggesting things you've already tried.. don't make us guess and beat around the bush to solve your problems. If we keep making suggestions and you state you've already tried it without any more explanation, most likely we're going to lose interest in helping you out..

On the offchance that it's case sensitive, try replacing "xterm" with "XTerm"
