Xfree86

I have a hp 5495 laptop with i830M chipset. I loaded redhat 7.2 on it. During boot i asked it to select kde as default but to login
in text mode. I upgraded my xfree to xfree86 4.2.0 and
modified my xf86config file. Then i added the line startkde to my
.xinitrc file and gave startx. It started kde but the edges were not
covered by the window. Also when i log out of X it does not
goto command prompt. it just blanks the screen

It looks refresh rate etc is not set correctly. If you can see anything it means the change needed is not very big. Try changing refresh rates.
