I want to eliminate the video card as a possible source of problem before I try to update the bttv drivers.

Just to temporarily disable the fglrx drivers (and not remove) what do I do?

You should only have to change the driver used in your X config file to either the radeon or vesa driver that was used when you first setup the system.

Thanks. I'll try the vesa drivers. The radeon drivers always used to hang my system even whenever I booted up.
