X restarts after going to Console

I'm running Gnome 2.2.1 and I have xfree 4.3.0-r3. I have an ATI FireGL 8800. Everything works fine, except that after I'm in console mode for about 30sec or more X restarts and logs me out of Gnome. This is really annoying!

Anyone know what I can do? I don't know if it's because of my xfree version or maybe because of my ATI card.

After this happens look through /var/log/XFree86.0.log and see if there are any errors.

I thought X was restarting, but I tried it before logging into gnome and everything worked fine. The problem seemed to be that I just get logged out of gnome. I don't have any shortcuts specified to log out. Any ideas?
