i just put together my sempron powered pc and installed win xp pro and then medieval total war. (sorry linux will come............)
during battles, (higher demands from video card i think) it likes to restart the whole computer on me.
i haven't installed my sound card yet, but sound does work, (integrated in motherboard correct?) can anyone think of why this problem occurs?
256 DDR
2400+ sempron proc.
geforce 2? (sorry cant remember exactly 2 or 4) 128MB 128-bit
i had a problem exactly like that and found no reason for it to reboot. about a YEAR later ny transponders that regulate the power to the cpu have died by having orange ooze on the top. i called up the company and RMA'ed it and ever since i have had not one random reboot. i would say look for corroding of transponders on the mobo or something that dosent look right.
i think it's an overheating prob.
( overheating will cause a reboot on a lot of pc's )
check for dust in the fans, and try running it with an open case for extra cooling.
would not having a sound card be a problem? it only rebooted when my friend was playing medieval. then i installed my snd card (sound blaster 2)
and it hasn't restarted yet.
try update to the latest driver if you haven't already, hopefully that will fixe the problem. also check if your video card need a power core, some of the high end cards need power from the power supply.
not to scary you, but I had problem with rome total war, to solve the problem Dell had to replace my video card.
well ive been using it for 2 days now and no restarts since my sound card was installed. but im not sure how big my power supply is. i bought it in some small little chinese power supply shop. needless to say i may be needing a new one soon.
