Question What is the difference between "su" and "su -"

I know man pages tell me that "su -" "make the shell a login shell" but what does that really mean?

It gives you the environment that you would have had if you had logged in directly as that user.

It means you login as a user instead of only as root. su - gives you login: password: instead of assword
