what does "unable to create io-slave; unknown protocol" mean?

When I plugged in my digital camera and its icon (also an icon for the memory card), I tried to open the camera first. I got this error message: "Could not start process Unable to create io-slave: klauncher said: Unknown protocol 'camera'." It wasn't much of a problem, because I opened the memory card without that error; but the thing is, I get that relatively often when trying to open media. Might it be due to a common problem that I can solve easily?

Can you clarify what you did? What camera are you using?

Did you plug in the camera to your Linux machine, and then while it was plugged in, open up and remove the memory from the camera? While you were using an application to get pictures from the camera?

What distribution and version are you using? Have you checked syslog?

Well...since you asked, simple solution: pack up your computer ASAP and ship it to me.
