weired problem with php and mysql

I am running

RH8.0 with apache and mysql and php.

I bought a book which has an example shopping cart.
It is complete and works on an older system.

php works
apache works
mysql works

it pulls category names and category ids from mysql no problem I can update it and I can delete what I don't want.

When you click on the caterogry what is supposed to happen is books are listed. however this is the part that is not working.

no books are being listed. Yes there is info in mysql butit will not show it. I have a similar problem when trying to log in as an administrator so though that there may be some weired setting I am not getting.

check it out at www.dsi-usa.com/sql/index.php

I posted a phpinfo page at www.dsi-usa.com/test.php does anything look funny?

how can i change the stuff in the phpinfo?
