anyone have any recomendations for a place for registering a domain and that is able to re-direct to your dynamic IP that is fairly cheap? I'm just kinda tinkering around at my house and wanted to host a website.
I personally like www.changeip.com (also free). They offer a wide range of names. And will even allow you to map things like www.myurl.com to a different ip then myurl.com
i'd still vote for zoneedit. while these other providers are free you will still have to have www.domain.freeipprovider.com or something, which is ugly and annoying. buy a domain of your choice and then just go to zoneedit to connect it to an IP.
For a registrar, try www.godaddy.com. I think the rate for most top-levels is $8.95/yr. A word to the wise, however. If you're looking at dynamic hosting also, set that up first and then register a domain. GoDaddy will let you point your new domain at a DNS during setup, but if you try to do it later you'll find that you're obligated to stick with GoDaddy's free parking service for two months.
I have read the replies, but as acid said those others may be free, but with some of their stuff in my url which I don't want. Sorry I didn't clarify that earlier. Thx fraggle, I'll prolly register with them.
zoneedit make thier money from the big comapnies who use them for 200 domains or something. you can only have a few free domains registered then. then you pay for the service.
