vxWorks / RT-11/rt11fs Filesystem Read under Linux?

Hi All,

I'm pulling my hair out attempting to find a filesystem driver to mount and read a vxWorks/RT-11 (rt11fs) filesystem under Linux.

I need to bring an rt11fs drive over to Linux and read the data from it. I don't have any write requirement. The system is locked into rt11fs and I can't move it to something like vxext or dosfs.

Anyone with any pointers?

TIA for any info!

--- Jodie

Is this a one-time effort in order to translate what you've got into what you want, or do you need to do this over a longer term? In either case, vxWorks is capable of exporting filesystems over NFS. You could use an NFS mount on a Linux or other OS host to copy the exported filesystem to whatever type you want. I'm not acquainted with the attributes of the vxWorks filesystem, such as file ownership, permissions, etc. so I can't say how well everything would get translated.

Hi Rod,

Thanks for your input there!

Alas, there's multiple issues with that for this project. The device (an embedded recorder) doesn't support NFS. And if it did, it'd mean moving 200GB/day over NFS from a unit that stays "at home" no more than a couple hours, and has 10bT for its interface. It does support ftp, but the same problem arises.

The goal here is to pop the drive out, pop a new one in, and then access the one that's been removed from a desktop to view the data.

And further alas [] - it's a longterm solution that I can't easily escape.

I'd *really* like to not have to port rt11fs to Linux. The odds that I can meet the client deadline would not look good.

I'll keep poking, but thank you again for your attention to this!

--- Jodie
