Video Drivers

I recently built a new AMD64 Athlon 64 system with chipset VIA K8M890, Integrated VIA Chrome9 IGP.

After installing Debian Sid x86_64 on it, everything seems to be going fine. For my video driver, Sid installed 'vesa' because using 'via' drivers doesn't work.

I can live with the vesa driver but when I open windows, instead of the window scrolling up and down smoothly, they move in a wavy type of motion.

Any ideas why this happens or how to fix it?

Thnx.

Had the same problem on Etch, VIA K8M800 with VIA drivers working. Don't know what the problem was but I just disabled smooth scrolling and all is well. I know that doesn't exactly answer your question but I couldn't resolve the issue. I figured it had something to do with the VIA driver and if you are using vesa then I would think you are not getting the most from your video chipset either.

It may pay to look at the HorizSync and VertRefresh frequencies in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf to see if they match the monitor characteristic.

I recently installed the 32bit version of Debian Sid and don't have the problem using vesa driver, not sure why not.

But I did do some searching around and found some drivers from VIA website.

I need the IGP chipset:
This package provides the kernel source code for the UniChrome Pro K8M800/P4M890 and Chrome9 IGP K8M890CE Linux display driver.

I will check it out and see what happens.

Thnx.

I tried installing the drivers mention earlier but didn't quite install fully, some errors.

But the good thing is, that jerky/wavy motion is gone. I don't what made it change but now it's not there.

Thnx.
