Question us robotics modem and hsp modem on one system

hey there I finally got my new external modem and installed it,everything worked fine in windows. but when i tried to set up my internet on linux it didnt detect the us robotics. is there a way to do this without physically removing the hsp? not that i dont mind doing that but this one will be going to my sister soon and she wont be using linux , so i want to keep the hsp in. (is that confusing enough? lol
thanx in advance

Maybe, even when it's external, its a winmodem.
Visit http://www.idir.net/~gromitkc/winmodem.html and check out the chiptype, take it from there, its got all links to modules and how-to's.
