Trouble booting linux up after using Xconfigurator
Recently my linux system had been restarted by someone while it was on. This seemed to screw everything up... the screen flickered for about 5 minutes, then there was a message saying:
According to var/run/gdm.pid, gdm was already running (1073819204),
but seems to have been murdered mysteriously.
INIT: Id "x" respawning to fast: disabled for 5 minutes
I was advised that X wasn't running and it might need to be reconfigured, which I did with Xconfigurator.
Now when I boot linux from my Lilo boot, it asks me what startlevel, I know 3 for non GUI and 5 for the graphical interface, but neither worked, in fact I entered number 0-5 and kept getting the same response: no more processes in this runlevel.
In addition at the Lilo boot I also tried:
Linux 3 and
Linux 5
Unfortunately this is my bosses computer, she did not create a boot disk.
I am not able to run at level 9 either ("no more processes on this runlevel").
I also tried the command that linuxcool suggested.
Unfortunately, it seems the only input I can give it is at the Lilo
boot and when it asks what runlevel. After that, it provides no other opportunities to give input.
well, your going to need to create a boot disk or rescue disk, you can try from the installation disk, i know if your using redhat they have a rescue mode you can try.... or you can try with the tomsrtbt disk to boot into your system to fix any repairs... you can go here for the disk download: http://www.toms.net/rb/
or you can go to www.redhat.com or your distros site for downloadable rescue disks...etc.
