Tightvnc on :0 ?

I'm trying to get Tightvnc on Linux to open a vnc server on display :0

but it keeps telling me

"A VNC server is already running as :0"

But I have no VNC server running yet (I even checked for it via ps)

How do I get this thing to run on display :0 so I can directly access my current screen remotely?

i exepct that's probably a slightly misleading message, and instead just means that you already have an x server of some sort on :0 which you clearly do. you can't just hook into it like that. xorg-x11 now contains an internal vnc module, which is really easy to configure to allow wehat you want, or there's the x11vnc app which is a standalone equivalent.

this is also really really not related to security...
