Question Synching an MP3 Player in Linux

Is it hard to synch an MP3 player in linux. I use SuSE 9.0 Pro, and I have a collection of mp3s that I usually just play from my computer. Do I need certain software? If so, what and where do I get it? I do have a windows machine that I could use if necessary, but I would so much rather avoid having to do that.

Thanks in advance.

that's going to depend on which mp3 player you're talking about - some can be accessed very easily by mounting them as usb mass storage devices. others may use an application, like gtkpod for ipods (I'm not sure if this is strictly required, or just makes interfacing easier...?)

take a look at the HCL here, or check out sites like linuxcompatible.org for info on specific devices. to find OSS projects you can try browsing through sites like freshmeat.net and sourceforge.net

When you say "sync," what do you mean? Are you talking about the iTunes auto-sync that automatically makes the iPod reflect what's on the computer library, erasing what's on the iPod? I personally hate that feature, but is that what you're talking about?

If you're just talking about organization of music and drag-and-drop, I found Juk to be the best program for that. It took a really long time to build my library, but once it was up, it was simple to drag and drop songs to my MP3 player (SanDisk).

What kind of MP3 player do you have? What do you want to do, exactly?

Thanks for the help. I have an Iriver Model iFP-895 512MB.

What I meant by "synching" is really drag and drop. I just want to maintain my library of MP3s on my linux system and be able to add them and remove them from my MP3 player from time to time to update my playlist.

Thanks,
