SUSE 9.0 Network Install

Hi folks, well have given up on Mandy's 9.1, 9.2 & 10 (cos they wouldnt recognise my bog-standard USB Mouse, Fedora Core was the ropiest thing I have ever seen so now I'm TRYING to try out SUSE, and here is the prob

Have downloaded and burnt the SUSE boot ISO to a CD

Restart the system, which loads all the components ok

Install my Realtek Ethernet card from the list provided

Don't select DHCP as I have a router so enter

192.168.7.2 as my IP
Leave the mask as 255.255.255.0
192.168.7.1 as my gateway (router)

And then attempt to connect to the ftp server which in my case is 212.219.247.12 <<< this is mirror.ac.uk

And thats it - it sites there for about 2 minutes and then says "cannot connect to ftp server" and that ftp server is definitely up - I dont think its ever down to be honest

So that's that, I can't install SUSE - anyone got any suggestions - I keep coming back to Linux about once every six months but it always a case of either

- the installation hangs
- my basic hardware isnt recognised even if it does install

and I was hoping SUSE would be different but I cant even get off the starting blocks....

Help please if you can

at the command line as root type ifconfig -a . This will show you the config of your NIC (Network interface Card)

you should get something similar to this
linux:~ # ifconfig -a

Perhaps try another server.
I had to try a few to get my FTP 9.0 installed, and some more to get a good update source.
Select 3 or 4 that are anywhere near you and maybe a few that aren't.
