software sharing!

Hello all,
I have installed a software in a common directory
(says /parent/mydir). At the same time, I have set that directory's owner to be a group (says mygroup) and two user (says u1 and u2) belongs to the group. Now how can I set the path so all the user in mygroup can use the software? Thx in advance.

well, they can just cd to the directory and access the software from there, provided that you chmodded it appropriately (probably 770 unless you want to give them less).

below: this is a redhat 7.1 configuration; other distros may be slightly different.

you probably should just add:

PATH=$PATH:/parent/mydir

to the .bashrc file.

that's the correct syntax, but i'm not sure if this retains the other path variables. i'm pretty sure it does. make sure to check by typing

echo $PATH

before and after the changes are made (and you've reloaded your shell with the new changes afterwards)
