Setting up telnet on rh?

Wondering how do i setup, telnet access on my redhat 9 server.

Reason??
I have a windows XP machine, a Router & a RH9 Server.

RH9 server has no monitor, keyboard, or mouse. And it is used primary for PHP/Mysql access, being a local development server. I would to have telnet so i can remotely connect and shutdown the server. As if i press the off button on the sever; and it won't shut down properly.

Is this a good way to go about it?

Is there any particular reason for telnet over ssh? I mean, while it can be helpful to have a protected telnet hole to the server in case sshd goes down, primary access to the box is better w/ssh.

Just a couple of thaughts. If you want to use telnet you must set up /etc/xinetd.d/telnet

Also check your firewall allows telnet if you are using one.

I access my linux bos from win98 I was using telnet but now use a very nice free program called putty uses ssh very easy to set up and more secure.
