Sarg-reports

Have been trying to configure Sarg to receive reports for Squid users, with no luck.
Does anyone know if Apache2 has to be installed in order to use SARG?

Hi,

Basically SARG just analyses and generates reports from the Squid log files. Those reports are in HTML and graphics format. So if you want to see them then, yes, you'll need a webserver.

Kind regards,

Eric

Do you know if the logfile has to be in the native format in order to generate reports?
If I have a web browser on the system, wouldn't that allow me to open a html file?
Your saying to view the files I need a web server?

Hi,

You'll have to set emulate_httpd_log on in your squid.conf if I recall correctly to produce log files readable by Sarg.

If you want to view the reports in a browser from another computer without downloading them or without access to the drive where they're located then you need a webserver.

If you want to view them only on the same server and you have a webbrowser, then you don't need a webserver.

Kind regards,

Eric

Hi,

Thanks, didn't even think about the squid.conf file.
Also, I have User-Agent log disabled, should that be changed?
Don't really know what affect the User-Agent log has on SARG, if any.

Hello,

No problem if you have useragent log disabled. I don't think this particular log has an effect on SARG since all it does is copy the UserAgent field of the HTTP header from your visitors. This way you can view what browser is most used to visit your site(s).

You can find out all about the Squid logs here.
Another great site in regard to Squid if you want to understand what's in the logs Squid FAQ's

Kind regards,

Eric
