RPC: Program not registered

Hi,

I have some6-8 linux clients which are being used as NIS clients. When i do a " rup guruxxxx " from my NIS server(solaris) is gives error:

guruxxxx: RPC: Program not registered

Please suggest what is the deamon/config i am missing on linux boxes.
This is the problem with all 6-8 linux clients.

Welcome to LQ!

First thing to check is the portmapper.

/etc/init.d/portmap start

The command may be slightly different, depending on what Linux distribution is used.

I am using RH AS server 4. I tried starting portmap but no luck.
I can see portmap running as well.

[root@gurux003 init.d]# ps -ef | grep port
rpc 21678 1 0 10:26 ? 00:00:00 portmap
root 21912 21416 0 10:28 pts/4 00:00:00 grep port
[root@gurux003 init.d]#

Any other place i should look for ? any clues ?
