RH7.2 and kernel recompilation

I'll tried to recompile my redhat 7.2 kernel

This is what i get when booting from it

/lib/ext3.o and then a whole list of error messages.

this happens before the [ok] thing starts

But everything else looked fine.

I took the following steps

downloaded the kernel (2.4.16)

cd /usr/src
rm linux
mkdir linux-2.4.16
ln -s linux-2.4.16 linux

tar -xvzf linux-2.4.16.tar.gz
cd linux
make mrproper

then i copied the config file from /usr/src/linux-2.4.7-10/configs.
cp /usr/src/linux-2.4.7-10/configs/kernel-2.4.7-i686.config /usr/src/linux/.config
then i did a make xconfig
then select load configuration from file
i selected the .config file
then i did:
make dep
make bzImage
make modules
cp /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot/bzImage /boot/vmlinuz-2.4.16
make modules_install
mkinitrd /boot/initrd-2.4.7-10.img 2.4.16
cp /usr/src/linux/System.map /boot/System.map-2.4.16

Then added the lines to load the kernel in the /etc/grub.conf file..

It loads but ext3 does not goes that well have i done something wrong or must i recompile it again (i did it 3 times now and the same thing happens everytime

Thanks for your time.

it is in the filesystems section

Got it

mkinitrd /boot/initrd-2.4.7-10.img 2.4.16 is the problem

It must be :
mkinitrd /boot/initrd-2.4.16.img 2.4.16

Thanks for your time!!
