I did check line 173 which (in kernel 2.4.2-2) is a function
prototype, no number at all thus... what on earth is wrong?

Some help please, because I really need NTFS read-support...

well... redhat 7.0 was infamous for shipping with a broken gcc compiler. are you using 7.1 or 7.0? check your gcc version with

gcc --version

it should be 2.95.3 - i think . also, i don't think that gcc 3.0 is recommended for compiling kernels yet, if you've already upgraded it.
