afaik you don't, you'd pass syslog messages to the host operating system, and that would then relay at that level, if you wish to do slightly fancier than normal things with syslog, check out syslog-ng as a replacement to the standard syslogd, much much more flexible.

Hello acid_kewpie,

Thanks for the reply.

actually , in the client side (linux machine) , i dont have any syslog server, i use /usr/include/sys/syslog.h for my client side, in that how to send the messages to syslog server which is in other linux machine.

For syslog-ng server , what is the client side header file, i can use?

Thanks,
Arunachalam.

linux always runs syslog internally, that's how nearly all server logs get where they are.

syslog-ng uses the same interface... if it didn't it wouldn't be syslog.

you DO run syslog. i guess you just don't know that you do. just use it, it'll work. it doesn't matter from the apps perspective what syslog server is actually running, just so long as it works and conforms to syslog standards.

hello,
I tried sending syslog messages from my test code (using /usr/include/sys/syslog.h), it is working fine, the logs are getting logged in the /var/adm/messages in the local machine (because of local syslog server).

Similarly , i need to send the syslog messages to other machine (syslog server). My requirement is like, i should not run the syslog server in the client machine , where i run my test code.

how can i do?

i've told you quite a few times now... this is up to the client syslog instance to redisttibute to other servers. please read the documentation of your chosen syslog instance on your client for information on how to do this. please please understand this...
