Problems with Mandrake 9.2 bootup (drive errors).

I downloaded mandrake 9.2 to install on my computer. (old dual penitum pro with lots of memory, and 2 hard drives, 3 gig seagate and a 6 gig maxtor).

The comptuer has been running mandrake 9.1 with no problems (other than a couple of usb issues which I found out that mandrake 9.2 resolves).

Anyway, I went ahead and burned the iso cds. I then booted to the cdrom drive.

I followed along with the install instructions (i erased both hard drives (3 gig master, 6 gig slave), i wanted to start with a completely new fresh install).

The install went flawlessly and worked fine.

I thgen rebooted, once i rebooted, the system boots up fine except it then stops at a point where it gives me an error.

The error occurs at the "Partition Check:"
and it says:
"DriveStatusError Bad CRC"
"DriveReady SeekComplete Error"

(this is occuring on hdb (second drive).

Now if I at the bootloader, type in linux -noapic (i have no idea what that does), it allows the boot to go all the way but xwindows fails to load with errors saying that there are no screens ready (or something like that).

Any ideas how to get this working properly?

ummm....i have no experience with Mandrake but...umm...i would believe from the error message that there is a problem with your 6Gb drive.......

Trust me...i've seen that message...it is the first sign of pending failure...

The latter part re the "linux - ..." ....not too sure myself

let i know
