OK, I've been searching this site for a solution but cant find one so I thought I'd ask.
I am trying to boot, Mandrake8.2, 9.0, Slackware8.1 and windows using Grub, all 4 OS's are installed.
Here's my setup, I have a 6.4 Gig partition with windows and MKD8.2 on HDA, I also have a 60 gig drive with MKD9 and Slackware on HDB, both drives are IDE, I also have a SCSI drive but that isnt an issue here, it's booting MDK9 that's the main problem.
Here's my Grub menu.lst file:

I know there is no way the Slackware entry will work, I'm more concerned with booting MDK9, though if anyone can tell me how to fix the Slack entry I'd appreciate it, here's how I have the partitions set up:
MDK8.2 =/dev/hda5 --> Boot's no problem
Win98 =/dev/hda1 --> Boot's no problem
MDK9.0 =/dev/hdb5 --> Dosent boot, gives me an error saying it cant find the files, dosent say which files!
Slackware8.1 =/dev/hdb6 --> Doesnt boot but I have a bootdisk for it so I'll worry about that later.
Can anyone see what I'm doing wrong? am I even correct with the (hd1,4) for booting off /dev/hdb5 ??
From searching through posts I seen /etc/grub.conf mentioned, well I havent got a grub.conf, am I supposed to have one?
Thanks for any replies.
I have no idea if this will work, but what happens if you try to copy you mdk 9 kernel to say hda5/boot/vmlinuz-mdk9
Then change you mdk9 section to:
kernel (hd0,4)/boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/hdb5 devfs=mount hdd=ide-scsi vga=788
This will still have root looking at hdb5 and only your boot partition will be on a different drive.
As for the menu.lst and grub.conf, I don't think there's a difference. I have a feeling Red Hat just put in the grub.conf to make it consistent with other programs like lilo or something.
What's the exact error message you get when you try to boot into mdk9?
