Question plug n play bios setting???

Ok, i seem to have a problem with a very loud fan in my laptop. It makes a very high pitched whine once the computer starts to warm up. It will come on for about 5 minutes then shut off. This only happens in Linux (suse and slack to be exact) but it doesnt happen if i install windows. I just thought of this, i would go test it right now but i dont have linux installed on it....mainly because i am getting ready to return the laptop and chalk it up to a bad fan. Just wondering if setting plug n play OS to NO under the bios could have any effect on the whole fan situation? From what i understand linux is not a plug n play os...correct ? Or is there something else that needs to be done so the fan functions normaly under linux, again since i dont seem to have the problem when running windows.

Thanx

Correct you should set plug-n-pray to off for linux. On my laptop (IBM-T20) Suse 8.1 uses ACPI (unsuccessfuly) instead of APM, by default.
