pdf--->> latex, graphics possible?

hi,

I have lost the source files of my report composed with latex and xfig.
Now as I only have the pdf-versioned files and would like to modify the report,
I need advise of someone who knows if there is a possibility to convert a
pdf file which includes text and images into another format, if possible latex file and xfig graphics, which is modifiable.

Any hint to a useful resource is also appreciated.

Luqman

I don't know of any off hand but I do think there is a tool called pdf2html you could use to convert the pdf to html, which might make it easier for you to then convert to another format, etc. Try searching google.com/linux for links or similiar tools.

No you can't ! LaTeX is a high level document description program, containing many information about the logical level of your document. PDF is a low level page description program. When you go from Latex to pdf, all your logical informations are lost. It's like transforming a vectorial graphic into tiff format. You still have few options :

1- Your modifications are small, and you need only to include new pages inside your old pdf files. Then "gs" has many options to combine various pdf or ps files into a single one. Refer to gs documentation.

2- Your modifications are serious. Then you can take a software which directly work with lowlevel pdf files. The only one I know is from adobe, "acrobat writer", very powerfull, but NOT FREE.
