"no default or ui configuration directive found" on linux install

Hi, Syslinux shows the error message in the title everytime I try to boot from a 2gb usb drive. I've tried with Xubuntu 10.04 Desktop for i386 and Linux Mint 9, both with Unetbootin and Universal USB Installer, but I'm getting the same error all the time, it's driving me crazy. Thanks beforehand.
