Need suggestions on best way to expand embedded memory (flash) space
Hi,
I have a Linux eval board (running ubuntu) that boots off a 2G eMMC device. Everything is currently mounted on that device, so as I add packages with apt-get, they chew up this space. I've got about 400M free, and I know I'll need more because of the packages I'll be installing. I'm sure there are things I could remove to free up some space; but I'd like to avoid that if possible.
The board also has a uSD card, so I can easily add to the 2G, but obviously that'll be on a different device/partition.
Can I tell apt-get to install to the new disk?
Is this a good use of OverlayFS?
Other suggestions?
Thanks
There's essentially nothing under /home at this point.
I have to dig a bit to see what is actually taking up 1.5G of space.
This is how it is shipped.
I don't know a lot about overlay FS, but why do you say it may not work?
Tx

I said "I don't know" because I "have no idea", I don't know details about the overlay file system at all.
Yeah, use the df and the du -s commands to determine where all the space is being used up.
My experiences with embedded board, and this is a guess, but a good one, is that the space you have is just about the limit you do have. Might be better to run a more compact distribution.
Is that an old Beagle? They have newer ones with 4G of eMMC.
as far as i understand the persistent live overlay for fedora continually gets bigger and bigger. even after deleting files the overlay file is unable to reclaim that space. i usually create another live-usb after a few months.
