Mysterious restart

Hi there

Woke up this morning to the unexpected noise of my linux box mysteriously rebooting itself. I have looked in the logs for why this might have happened, but nothing. They all just seem to come to a stop with no explanation.

Anyone know of a reason why this could have happened? Should I be worried?

Thx

A short power cut maybe? Overheating?

Hi there

- Short powercut: Its certainly feasible, but surprised it would reboot rather than just not restart? Also, no clocks in the house needed resetting, so i'm thinking perhaps not?

- Overheating: I suspect not, because it rebooted straight away and has been on ever since with no probs.

- Last root...nothing unusual.

I think I might just put this one down to "just one of those things" unless it starts happening on a more regular basis...

I would run chkrootkit just in case. Also, the logs show nothing at all? No unusual logins or anything?

Exactly. "last root" shows "crash" next to the last entry.

power loss can be just one option
if u could analyse ur logs more then maybe u can see if that reboot was not due to some other reasons
