Mysterious restart
Hi there
Woke up this morning to the unexpected noise of my linux box mysteriously rebooting itself. I have looked in the logs for why this might have happened, but nothing. They all just seem to come to a stop with no explanation. Anyone know of a reason why this could have happened? Should I be worried? Thx |
A short power cut maybe? Overheating?
|
what do u get for
last root |
Hi there
- Short powercut: Its certainly feasible, but surprised it would reboot rather than just not restart? Also, no clocks in the house needed resetting, so i'm thinking perhaps not? - Overheating: I suspect not, because it rebooted straight away and has been on ever since with no probs. - Last root...nothing unusual. I think I might just put this one down to "just one of those things" unless it starts happening on a more regular basis... |
from
last root i wanted to whether u had a normal reboot or system crash etc regards |
I would run chkrootkit just in case. Also, the logs show nothing at all? No unusual logins or anything?

last entry does say "crash"...

so we now know that was a crash
this can happen due to power loss .... |
Yeah, perhaps it was just a spike or something....
I'll keep an eye on it... Thx for all your advice guys! |
power loss can be just one option
if u could analyse ur logs more then maybe u can see if that reboot was not due to some other reasons regards |
