my way of booting some suggestions /comments reqd

Hi

I have installed slack 9.1 on a reiserfs filesystem. Also i have installed
zipslack on /dev/hda5.
I do not want to use LILO to boot linux. I always have used LOADLIN and booted thru a floppy. But these floppies get corrupted very quickly. So i decide to use Loadlin option from hd

I have added the following lines in config.sys
[menu]
menuitem=linuxumsdos, linux umsdos
menuitem=linuxreiserfs, linux reiserfs
menuitem=win98

[linuxumsdos]

[linuxreisefs]

the shell= command goes here

[win98]

I have called this confg.sys from autoexec.bat

When i reboot my pc i get the above menu. i select option 2 and I boot into slack91 on reiserfs I select option 3 and I boot into win 98
When I select option 1 i cannot boot into zipslack and win 98 starts by default

How can this be done or is there any alternative way of doiing the same

Also when I installed slack it gave me the option of not installing LILO

Is the same option given for all other distros
like Fedora,RH,debian,gentoo
(i would like to give a try to one of these )

Also can the above method be applied to all other distros (umsdos option may not be available in all of them)

Thanks and Regards
Ninad

Hi

Thanks atleast someone replied. Ok so now I have decided to give LILO try
can I do it now (I have installed slack w/o LILO and am booting through loadlin)

I have heard a lot that all bootloaders write to MBR and it will endanger my windows install
Also I have read how smooth it is after installing LILO or GRUB and as per what I have read from the forums and only 1 reply to my question it seems that 95% people use MBR bootloaders

Please suggest

Thanks
