is routed really reqd ??


redhat - 9. i have a static public IP. i am running NAT for my internal users. linux box has 2 nic. one with x.x.x.x(public ip) whereas other is 192.x.x.x . so, do i really require to run routed ??? whenever i start routed , the message kernel : 210.x.x.x sent an invalid ICMP error to a broadcast is filled in my /var/log/messages . when i stop routed, this message stops. what exactly is the purpose of routed ??? thanx

you would only need to be using ipmasquarading, nothing more than that.
