my clipboard drops just-copied items into second spot

For some months, I have had an odd and annoying little problem with my clipboard. When I copy or cut something, the item apparently becomes the second item on the clipboard, and when I paste, I get the previous item, soI must right-click the clipboard and select the correct item for pasting. Have you ever seen that happen?
