Modem Module Question

I Have Mandrake 9.0 & RedHat 8.0 on my machine. I have a broadband connection. I have a Neto Dragon 56K modem I use for backup. I found the Linux drivers for it & HAD it working in Mandrake. I have been installing a lot of programs in both RH & Mandy recently including dvd progs.

Tried to get the dial up modem to work in RH > no luck > booted to Mandrake > same problem > module cannot be found. The proper info is in /etc/modules.conf.

When I tried to "modprobe slmdm" I got the following message in both Mandy & RH:

slmdm.o
"the module you are trying to load is compiled with gcc version 2 compiler while the kernel is compiled with a gcc version 3 compiler. This is known not to work"

Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I have recompiled kernels on both Mandy & RH.

It's been a long road to get all my hardware working with Linux > finally got my PP scanner & Firewire devices working in both and ONLY had my USB camera left to get working. Now it looks like I'm back tracking.

Any suggestions BESIDES starting over will be appreciated!

Yes, find the source for your modem driver and recompile it using GCC 3.
